The Process:
1. How much of the ashes do you need to make the ink?
- We only ask for 1 teaspoon, and we send most of that back to you!
- We reduce the ashes you send to such a microgranular level, that when you get the ashes back, it will sometimes look like more than what you sent.
2. How do you make the ink?
- We perform a proprietary process to safely infuse your loved one's ashes into tattoo ink. We start with reducing the ash down to a nano granular material, allowing the ink to bind to it.
- We then use a pyrolytic sterilization method to re-sterilize the ash, Once the ashes have been re-sterilized, they are chemically agitated into the ink to create a single solution. We will then aseptically transfer the ink into its bottle, assign it a lot number, reference number, and give it a 12 month shelf life.
3. Why can't I take my ashes to a tattoo artist to have them mix it?
We STRONGLY suggest you do not allow your artist to do this. No reputable artist would just add a "pinch of ash" into their inks.
- Though ashes are sterile immediately following the cremation process, they are immediately contaminated once placed into the bag or urn.
- The ash particles are too large to be fused with the ink and must be reduced prior to the mixing.
- Because the particles are too big to be absorbed into the skin, the probability of an ink blowout is substantially higher, and no reputable artist will risk this by just adding a "pinch of ash".
4. Is the process sterile?
- The process involves three levels of sterilization. Your Angel's Ink is the only commemorative tattoo company in the world that has a physician on staff, certifying that each level of sterilization is up to medical standards.
5. How does the process work from start to finish?
- Once your order is received, an automated email will be generated containing your receipt and a unique identifying order number. You can expect a package to arrive within 5 business days containing a collection kit with detailed instructions on how to extract your loved one's ashes.
- After receiving your returned shipment containing your loved ones ashes, our staff will immediately send a personalized email, letting you know your shipment has been received.
- Another option is to have your local funeral home do the extraction of ashes for you.
- Once the remains have gone through the sterilization and infusion process, we will notify you that your ink is on the way! The same number that was assigned in the original email sent will be attached to the ink. We either mail the ink directly to you, or the artist, whichever the artist prefers.
- We create specific, unique labels for your loved one's remains, ensuring there is no mix up or confusion on where your loved one's remains are at all times. This also allows tattoo artists to hold multiple bottles of ink, from different remains, and be able to differentiate them by the actual label on the bottle, unlike other commemorative tattoo ink companies.
6. What do I do with the ink once I receive it?
- Take the sterile, sealed ink to the tattoo artist you have been working with and they will know how to handle it.
